United Way Meet Up & Chow Down Volunteers

United Way of Northeast Minnesota needs your help to keep this summer’s Meet Up and Chow Down sites open all summer long. We do not have enough staff to attend to all sites in need of volunteers to hand out free summer lunches to children! 

United Way Meet Up & Chow Down volunteers needed as the program ramps up! Anyone who is able to assist would be greatly appreciated and the work is fun & fulfilling! The United Way Meet Up & Chow Down program provides free lunch for kids and is located in multiple locations around The Iron Range.

United Way has several programs besides which are also looking for volunteers as well. Visit their website to learn more or to sign up for one of their programs and get involved in the community

2nd Annual Youth Mental Health Night

The 2nd Annual Youth Mental Health Night will be held June 23 5-7PM @ The Minnesota Discovery Center! Free Admission

Come out to The 2nd Annual Youth Mental Health Night at Minnesota Discovery Center!

  • Youth of all ages welcome
  • In conjunction with bands, brews, & BBQ
  • Food, Trolley Rides, & Mini-golf available for purchase!

Join us for an evening of fun while learning about healthy living strategies, local mental health resources and education, and much more! The evening will consist of games, prizes, a RIDE MN BMX stunt show, and the ability to explore the gorgeous grounds of the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm, MN. It’s going to be a fun evening for all ages that will also be an educational experience.

The Minnesota Discovery Center is delighted to invite everyone to join in!

Speaker Series on Vietnam (FREE)

United Way of Northeastern Minnesota’s United for Veterans committee is proud to present this free speaker series with HCC professor Steve Potts.

When: Monday June 6 (6-8 pm) and Monday June 13 (6-8 pm)

Where: Valentini’s Supper Club in Chisholm (Complimentary appetizers provided!)

 
The series is a great way to prepare for the arrival of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s “The Wall That Heals” Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica, coming to Chisholm Football Field June 23-26.
No registration is required for these free events. Seating will be first come, first served.

The Wall That Heals

United Way of Northeastern Minnesota‘s United for Veterans committee is proud to bring the preeminent replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to the area for Vietnam veterans, family members, and the public.

The Wall that Heals will be coming to Chisholm starting June 23rd and will remain on the field until June 26th.

June 23-26, 2022 – Chisholm Football Field

  • Week-long tribute to local Vietnam Veterans including a flyover, honor ceremonies, and more.
  • Free & open to the public

Monday June 20 (Pre-Wall Event)

  • FREE Fabulous Armadillos Concert at Hibbing Highschool Auditorium (family friendly)
  • 5:30 p.m. Doors Open, 6:30 p.m. Concert

Tuesday June 21

  • The Wall That Heals arrives on the Iron Range
  • Visit the United Way of NE MN for the arrival route and viewing sites

Wednesday June 22

  • Construction of The Wall begins
  • 6p.m. Volunteer Training (Visit United Way NE MN for volunteer opportunities)

Thursday June 23

  • 12a.m.: The Wall officially opens to the public 24 hours/day until Saturday 2p.m.

Saturday June 25

  • The Wall is open to public 24 hours, 10a.m. Honor Ceremony

Sunday June 26

In just one class, earn your CTA certification and learn how to create a more memorable visitor experience. Participants will gain an improved knowledge of area history, events and attractions, learn how to network with peers and mentors, explore customer service scenarios through group activities, and have access to special and offers & events throughout the year!

The Doc “Moonlight” Graham Festival will be taking place in August so parade participants should get their floats ready before then and register with us now while spots are available! It’s always a party when the Moonlight parade comes through town, and your float can be the star of the show!

St. Louis County Environmental Services Department: Business Hazardous Waste Collection

Hazardous wastes from businesses, non-profits, schools and farms are not accepted in the household program. B-CLEAN Business Hazardous Waste: the St. Louis County Environmental Services Department will provide hazardous waste disposal opportunities on the Range for Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) businesses. VSQG generators are businesses, schools, non-profits and commercial farms which monthly generate less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste materials. Call B-CLEAN at least one week in advance for an appointment at (218) 741-8831.

Another alternative disposal site that would facilitate hazardous wastes from businesses would be the Clean Shop Program in Duluth. Call 218-726-1602 for more information or go to the Clean Shop web site.
