From August 2nd to August 6th the St. Louis County Fair will be at the Fairgrounds at the Minnesota Discovery Center and there’s a LOT to look forward to this year! There will be rides, a variety of food vendors, shows performances & more!

Bruce Mine Headframe Park & Trailhead

The Bruce Mine Headframe Park & Trailhead ribbon cutting will be taking place on August 4th at 1PM and it’s going to be a sight to see! The Chisholm Beautification Association had been hard at work at putting this project together and it will be an exciting reveal of the finished product. The trailhead will act as a resting stop for Mesabi Trail riders, a launching point for Red Park MTB riders & ATV riders, not to mention an ideal place for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the sights & history!

In the event of rain the ribbon cutting ceremony will be taking place at the Chisholm Senior Center. 

What is the Bruce Mine Headframe Park & Trailhead?

A dedication to the thousands of dedicated immigrant miners who sacrificed so much to build a future on The Range and whose memory & history will always continue to live on. The park will serve not only as a memorial but a destination for visitors & a beautiful place in Chisholm for residents to enjoy. Mesabi Trail riders, Redhead MTB riders, and ATV riders will now have an additional sight to see and experience as well!

Moonlight Bingo

The Annual Doc Moonlight Bingo games are returning on August 2nd to Valentini’s Supper Club starting at 6PM. 28 games will be played and to play in all games an all-night card is $14.50 (individual cards may be purchased throughout the evening for individual games as well!

Food will also be available at the event for purchase as well as some great options from Valentini’s menu. Don’t play bingo on an empty stomach!

The Iron Man Market Community Night Out will be hosted by the Chisholm Lions Club & Jim’s Sports Club Bar & Grill on July 27th and August 24th. This is a great opportunity for some professional & community networking on top of a great chance to bring the family out for a fun night out!

The street will be blocked off near Kiwanis Park (Sabin’s Lot) to 2nd Avenue for the duration of the event as well, so plan your driving route accordingly!

Northern Lights Music Festival returns to Chisholm Auditorium with Puccini’s La Bohéme!

Celebrate twenty years of great classical music on the Iron Range with Puccini’s La Bohéme, presented by the Northern Lights Music Festival! One of Minnesota’s largest music festivals, the Northern Lights Music Festival offers lovers of classical music three weeks of live professional opera, chamber music and orchestra concerts presented by an international roster of guest artists, performing faculty and prize-winning young artists. With a full live season of professional opera, chamber music and symphonic concerts, as well as “Working the Range” lecture series, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The Chisholm Citywide clean-up will be happening from July 11th – July 15th and is going to help everyone in getting rid of a ton of unwanted junk, making our city a little tidier! Everything from tires, refrigerators, and microwave ovens to bricks, wood pallets, and mattresses can go!

Accepted Items:

  • Tires: up to 24.5″ diameter vehicle tires, with or without rims. (LIMIT 4)
  • Appliances: “Preferred Drop Off” At Precious Paws 101 1st Ave SW
    • Refrigerators (remove doors)
    • Freezers (remove doors)
    • Stoves
    • Hot-water Heaters
    • Air conditioners
    • Dehumidifiers
    • Microwave ovens
    • Fluorescent light fixtures (No ballasts/bulbs)
  • Automobile batteries, Lawn mowers, Computer Towers
  • Television & Computer Monitors ($13.50 per item)

  • Yard waste will be accepted at the compost site located just west of the cemetery, off Cemetery Road (no bags, please)

 

Preparation:

As stated above, doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers. Remember Precious Paws before dropping off at the city garage. Other containers are not necessary.

Alternative Free Drop Off Sites:

The St. Louis County Waste Department accepts tires (LIMIT 4), appliances (LIMIT 2), batteries, used motor oil, scrap metal, used antifreeze, 4-foot fluorescent bulbs (LIMIT 4), and oil filters (LIMIT 4) free of charge at its Transfer Station in Hibbing and its Regional Landfill in Gilbert. Household hazardous wastes are collected by appointment on scheduled dates at no charge.

Corrugated cardboard is accepted at Balkan Township Canister Site free of charge.

The United Way $10K Golf Ball Drop will be on August 3rd and tickets are on sale NOW! Only 1,000 tickets are available and are $20 each so get your Golf Ball Drop tickets while supplies last!

How The United Way $10K Golf Ball Drop works:

  • Your ticket number will be written on a golf ball
  • All balls will be hoisted above a golf ball hole at Mesaba Country Club by a Lakehead Constructors crane at 6p.m. Wednesday August 17th
  • First ball in the hole (or closest to the pin) wins first place cash prize of $2,500!
  • The next four in the hole (or next four closest to the pin) win corresponding cash prizes for second, third, fourth, and fifth place.
  • This ball drop will take place twice. So buy a ticket for the first drop, the second drop, or both!

Two Rounds of Cash Raffle Prizes:

  • $2,500 – First Place
  • $1,000 – Second Place
  • $750 – Third Place
  • $500 – Fourth Place
