School is starting soon and what is better than having your kid feel confident on their first day with a brand new hairstyle, or maybe you would like to mix up your own style! VEMA (Voices for Ethnic & Multicultural Awareness) will be hosting Burgers & Braids Block Party on Saturday, September 2nd 2023. VEMA was founded in the spring of 2020 following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Seraphia Gravelle (Aguallo), Elizabeth Robinson (Allen), and Nathaniel Coward began the work of educating the community and providing a voice for people of color throughout the region. Historically there has been a lack of representation as well as complaints and concerns falling on the deaf ears of the leaders of the regional community.

10th Annual Schnorr Mudfest

Get ready for Chisholm’s 10th Annual Schnorr Mudfest on September 16th! There will be a big ATV ride, fireworks, a car show, vendor show, and plenty of fun for everyone!

This years ATV ride will be held September 16th starting at Tom and Jerry’s Bar in Chisholm, MN & the vendor show will be taking place at Valentini’s Supper Club.

The 10th Annual Schnorr Mudfest will leave town, head to Highway 5 Bar and then on to the Sportsman’s Club where lunch will be served for all the riders. While the ride is going on there will be family friendly events happening on Main Street in Chisholm so even if you don’t have an ATV you can still be part of the fun! After the ride returns to town we will hold our drawings for raffle items, as well as our traditional large cash raffle drawing.

We will continue into the night with a band as well as fireworks display at dusk. Food vendors will be available throughout the day, so please come down, have a bite, have some fun and help support Fishing with Vets!

Quarterback Club Homecoming Raffle

Grab your tickets now for the Quarterback Club Homecoming Raffle, there are only 300 tickets available at $20 each so make sure to get yours early! Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Chisholm football program to help fund scholarships, travel, equipment, uniforms, and HUDL. Then, after purchasing your raffle tickets, make sure to show up for the game on October 13th to cheer for the Bluestreaks and to hear the raffle results at halftime!

Pitter Patter Kitten Shower

You’re invited to the Precious Paws Pitter Patter Kitten Shower which will be taking place on August 26th from 11 AM-2PM! It sounds cute, obviously, but what is a kitten shower?

What is the Pitter Patter Kitten Shower?

Attendees may bring their pets in for cat & dog nail trims, dog baths, and a chance at their giveaway! To enter the giveaway attendees should bring an item off of the Precious Paws Wish list, and it goes towards helping the animals in their care. Cupcakes & beverages will also be available along with optional tours of the facility; who knows, you may run into a kitten that absolutely melts your heart!

United Way Renegade Trail Run

The United Way Renegade Trail Run will be taking place on September 9th at the Redhead MTB Park along their newest trail. Competitive running & non-competitive running, walking, and hiking, along with a new division for the Distance Loop and competitive rucking! All proceeds from the event go towards the United for Veterans program!

Registration fee will cover the cost of the trail run, shirt, chip timing, (1) free beer for runners 21+, or (1) free root beer.

Pricing will begin at $40 for adults and $20 for youth (12 and under) from June 1st-August 25th. Prices will increase to $50 for adults and $30 for youth from August 26th-September 9th!

About the Distance Looping Run:

Run the Renegade 5K as many times as you are able starting at 9AM; last eligible loops end at 11AM

About the Ruck Weighted Division:

Bring your own 5olbs of weight to ruck across the 5K course! Bring a burlap sack filled with sand or a bag filled with canned food to donate to United Way following the run (be creative!)

Attendees will also be able to purchase food on site from Later Tater & The Ice Cream Truck LLC! Entertainment by K&J Entertainment will also be on site at the Redhead MTB Park.

“Try It Out” Northland Summer Activities

The Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce Outdoor Tourism Committee and the Minnesota Discovery Center invite you to the Redhead Mountain Bike Park to experience a few of the great outdoor activities our region offers with the “Try It Out” Northland Summer Activities event.

You will have the opportunity to try out kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and hiking with experienced volunteers from our community.

This activity will give you the advantage of learning proper safety, equipment use and a guided tour of the area.

For some of the activities 30 West and the Minnesota Discovery Center will be loaning out “adult” sized equipment.

Registration for the “Try It Out” Northland Summer Activities is required to reserve your spot in line, please fill out one registration form per participant.

Each activity will begin at the top of the hour beginning at 4:00 PM with the last opportunity offered at 7:00 PM.

Registration is required to hold equipment.

Equipment will be held with a registration until 10 minutes after the hour. After which, equipment will be released for those at the park who would like to participate. All equipment for this event is adult sized.

“Minescapes” Presented by Pete Kero

Come out to the Minnesota Discovery Center on August 24th for a book discussion and Q&A of “Minescapes” presented by Pete Kero, a local author, environmental engineer, and cofounding father of the new award winning Redhead MTB Park.

Location: Minnesota Discovery Center 1005 Discovery Drive
Admission: Free & Open to the Public

In Minescapes, environmental engineer Pete Kero explores the record that is written on Minnesota’s mined lands—and the value systems of each generation that created, touched, and lived among these landscapes. His narratives reveal ways in which the mining industry and Iron Range residents coexist and sup port each other today, just as they have for more than a century.

“Minescapes” presented by Pete Kero is a great opportunity to learn more about the process of creating something amazing from a former mining pit and what that means for the environment as well as the community. This event takes place in conjunction with Bands, Brews, & BBQ offering BBQ, signature drinks, and live music from 4-8pm (live music starting at 5pm) in The Rustic Pig Food Court.
