About VEMA

To lift up the voices of all people in our communities that experience racism, discrimination, injustice and/or predjudice. To enact change, educate, and provide cultural experiences. To provide resources to community members who are affected by issues of racism, discrimination, and injustice.

VEMA was founded in the spring of 2020 following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Seraphia Gravelle (Aguallo), Elizabeth Robinson (Allen), and Nathaniel Coward began the work of educating the community and providing a voice for people of color throughout the region. Historically there has been a lack of representation as well as complaints and concerns falling on the deaf ears of the leaders of the regional community. VEMA stands united to work against racism and injustice. Through educating not only the members of VEMA but also the community surrounding them, they intend on chipping away at the systemic and blatant racism that exists throughout their community. In addition to education, a priority of VEMA is to ensure accurate and adequate representation as the community as a whole works to disrupt racism and discrimination.

Bridge of Peace Memorial

The Chisholm Community Foundation has planned a Bridge of Peace Memorial in honor of the late Senator David J. Tomassoni for his 30 years of service in the Minnesota legislature and the many ecnomic initiatives he directly and indirectly championed.. A memorial arch and recreational plaza will be built on the Bridge of Peace located on the Longyear Lake causeway , the memorial will also honor Iron Range veterans of all military conflicts, many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The project is is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2023. As the fiscal intermediary for the project contributions should be made out to the Chisholm Community Foundation (CCF). Chisholm Bond Referendum Presentation logo

Chisholm Bond Referendum Presentation

Stop in to Valentini’s Super Club on October 24th at 6PM for the ISD 695 Chisholm Bond Referendum Presentation concerning costs and consolidation! Presented by the Referendum “Yes” Committee.

The ISD 695 Chisholm Bond Referendum Presentation will answer questions you may have such as:

  • What is included in the $32 million referendum?
  • How does this affect tax payers?
  • What would be the financial impacts of consolidation?

The presentation will be by Michael Hoheisel who joined Baird in 2014 and has over 40 years of public finance expertise. He understands serving as your financial partner requires not only a complete and detailed understanding of your goals and priorities but the expertise and resources to tailor financing solutions that are both comprehensive and long term.

His primary focus over the last decade is providing financial services to school districts in the upper Midwest, specifically in Minnesota and South Dakota. In addition, he has assisted clients across the nation with their particular financing needs. Hoheisel is affiliated with the Minnesota School Boards Association, the Minnesota Association of School Administrators, the Minnesota Association of School Business Officials and the Minnesota Rural Education Association. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Management and Finance from St. John’s University.

There will also be two other meetings taking place on Thursday, October 20th at The Balkan Community Center at 6PM & Tuesday, November 1st at Tom & Jerry’s Bar at 6PM. These presentations will be held by Superintendent Adrian Norman and are also opportune times to further learn more about what the Referendum is, what consolidation would mean for Chisholm, and why the issue is important for all Chisholm residents.

Please come out and be prepared to make an informed vote in November. We will also try to film meetings in order to provide the information to those who won’t be able to attend, but if you are able these will be important meetings to listen in on as well as have your questions answered.

Precious Paws WoofTrax logo

Precious Paws WoofTrax

Precious Paws WoofTrax is a great new way to help Precious Paws raise money. How does it work? You download the WoofTrax app onto your phone, select Precious Paws as your shelter of choice, and then take your pet for a walk (which you should already be doing anyways)! The app will take count of how much you walk and the more mileage for Precious Paws the more donations Precious Paws receives in donations!

It’s an easy and simple way to help the animals in our local community, and it would mean a ton in getting what the shelter needs! And if you have more questions on what Precious Paws does or how else you might be able to help you should definitely take a look at their website! They are always looking for more help and for loving families that want to adopt a furry new friend into their family, which by the way, is the best way of all that you are able to help. And always feel free to contact them for inquiries or to visit their very wonderful sheltered animals who would love some affection!

The app is available in your smartphone app store and is easy to set up. Take a look at the WoofTrax FAQ for any questions you may have!
