Celebrating Employee Ownership Month at NHS Northstar
At NHS Northstar, Employee Ownership Month is more than a celebration — it’s a reflection of who we are. It’s a testament to the strength of shared purpose and the power of collective impact. Just as we empower people with disabilities to reach their fullest potential, we empower our employees to do the same.
Every October, we take time to celebrate our staff, our growth, and the progress we’ve made together. It’s also a moment to reflect on the past year — on the milestones we’ve reached and the lives we’ve touched.
When our founders began planning for retirement, they wanted to ensure that Northstar’s mission and values would remain in the hands of those who live them every day. That vision came to life in 2017, when NHS Northstar became 100% employee-owned — a milestone that continues to define our culture and commitment to our community.
Today, with over 300 staff, we provide residential and community supports to more than 200 people with disabilities. Each of our staff members contributes to making the lives of those we serve meaningful, enjoyable, and filled with connection. From our Spring into Summer and Halloween celebrations, to special outings like Vikings games, our team takes pride in creating moments of joy and inclusion.
Together, we embody teamwork in action — whether that’s cheering alongside our individuals at community events or rolling up our sleeves to make dreams come true. Our maintenance team’s work on the baseball diamond helped bring our Field of Dreams vision to life, a symbol of how dedication and collaboration can build something truly special.
At NHS Northstar, every employee has a voice, a stake, and a shared sense of pride in the change we create together. This month and every month, we celebrate the people who make Northstar shine.
