Minnesota Discovery Center: The Museum of The Iron Range
Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) is more than just a museum, it's living history! Nestled at the top of The Redhead MTB Park which was formerly the Pillsbury Mine Pit, MDC is home to a variety of exhibits that highlight the history of The Range from pre-historic times to The Great Depression and beyond. Take a ride on their trolley and learn about the history of the mining settlements from the early 1900's and of the trolley itself (an electric mode of transportation that was actually used by early settlers of the region)!
Some of their regular events include their Late Night at The Research Center, Family Discovery Days, as well as guest speakers & their historic craft showcases. They also host seasonal events such as their Flashlight Clueseum murder mystery & pumpkin patch picking and Glen Location tour in October, Adventure Snowshoe hikes during the winter, and a bunch more! See their upcoming events!
MDC has a ton of history packed into one location and you're absolutely going to walk out not only knowing something new but gaining a deeper appreciation of the journey that early settlers had to take in order to get where we are today. There are often new exhibits that MDC releases along with special speakers for a fully immersive experience. They also feature several outdoor exhibits during the summer including the Glen Location and the Northwoods Cabin. Take a trolley tour right into history! See their current exhibits as well as upcoming special exhibits!
Amphitheater & Music
MDC is also home to an impressive amphitheater where they hold a variety of performances from concert series, orchestras, and dance performances! You can catch their upcoming performances on their Event Calendar as well as their Facebook page. They also hold a summer long event: Bands, Brews & BBQ. Bands, Brews & BBQ includes food from The Rustic Pig and music performed by a number of different artists in their outdoor area.
