Juneteenth Celebration logo

Chisholm’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration, A Great Reason to Party!

Welcome to Chisholm’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration!

Voices for Ethnic & Multicultural Awareness (VEMA) will be holding Chisholm’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration! The event will be held on June 18th from 11AM-3PM between 2nd Avenue & the Bridge of Peace. There will be live performances, Black owned business vendors, food and drink specials, games, bounce houses, and Father’s Day activities plus so much more!

Mayor Adam Lantz will speak at the beginning of the event to acknowledge the importance of Juneteenth and why it is such an important celebration, afterwards he will be found at the Juneteenth Dunk Tank where attendees can attempt to dunk the Chisholm Mayor for the opening hour of the event!

Chess Tournament

All you chess enthusiasts have a shot at showing off your skills at the Juneteenth Chess Tournament which will be held in Jim’s Sports Club Bar & Grill!

The tournament will go from 1 PM-3 PM and competitors should bring their own boards.

All-Day Water Balloon Fight

The worst part about water balloon fights are that when they’re over there’s a big mess to clean up…but not this water balloon fight!

Grab your REUSABLE water balloons and jump in the fun throughout the day!

Cornhole Tournament

Another FREE tournament worth checking out is the Juneteenth Cornhole tournament that will be held at Choppy’s Pizza!

(venue tentative)

The tournament will be taking place from 12 PM-2 PM.

Make Your Own Juneteenth Kite

A neat addition to this celebration is the kite flying, which everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring their own if they have them. However, if you don’t have your own kite VEMA will provide them for you along with materials to decorate it.

Why?

The objective is actually really cool! Throughout Minnesota Juneteenth celebrations want to have enough kites in the sky to commemorate each year since June 19th 1865, the day which Juneteenth celebrates: the day The Emancipation Proclamation took place & slaves were finally freed. So in case you were looking for your calculator app that is 158 years, so every kite counts towards this lofty goal!

More Entertainment

Bounce Houses will be available in Kiwanis Park along with family friendly performers Eli Little and Desi! In Chisholm Pocket Park, rappers Loc Da Realest & Soldier Princess will be performing.

The Dunk Tank schedule will of course begin with our very own Mayor, Adam Lantz, during the first hour. Afterward, Police Chief, Vern Manner will be on the dunk tank for the following hour and for the remaining two hours of the event fathers may volunteer to be on the Dunk Tank. For just a littel Father’s Day touch!

Chalk art can be found throughout the day and everyone is invited to contribute their art as well!

Food & Beverages

Food will be provided by Big O’s Chef House along with Jim’s Sports Club Bar & Grill and they will be providing the following:

– Ribs    -Brisket    -Mac & Cheese    -Greens    -Beans    – Jambalya
