Meet up & Chow Down is a summer lunch program organized by the United Way of Northeastern Minnesota. If offers FREE lunch to kids and teens at several cities on the Iron Range. It replaces the amazing Buddy Backpack program they offer during the school year that provide food for the weekend for those who need a little extra help. Meet up and Chow Down starts June 9th through August 28 Monday – Thursday from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Chisholm Kiwanis Park vat the end of main street. Lunches are first come first serve and are available to all children ages 1-18 rain or shine. Lunches are not available June 19 or June 30-July 4. If you have any questions call 218-215-2424, email michelle@unitedwaymn.org or www.unitedwaynemn.org.
Other Cities available include:
Babbitt City Park, Biwabik City Park, Cook Public Library, Hibbing Bennett Park, Hibbing HRA Playground, Hoyt Lakes Public Library, International Falls – Backus, Keewatin City Park, Mt Iron Public Library, Nashwauk Rec Center, Virginia AEOA, Virginia Pine Mill Court, Virginia Olcott Park
The program wouldn’t be possible without the help of generous volunteers that give a little bit of time to help hand lunches out and keep track of the number of kids that come through each day. It can be an organization that volunteers it’s members, or individuals. I know the Chisholm Kiwanis Club does volunteer to help. They also donate an ice cream snack for the kids one day in the summer. Please contact the United Way to volunteer or ask any questions.
